shooting. police are saying one person has been detained. this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc 7 news. the incident happened shortly before six-thirty this evening, near the 17- hundred block seminary avenue. near east 17th street in oakland. police say, an officer has been shot. they say the injury is non- life threatening. kron 4's reggie kumar is live in oakland. with the latest at this hour. reggie? >> we can see that this is still a very active scene. as this continues to search for two suspects. the law enforcement agencies have surrounded a complex, nearby. >> reporter: oakland investigators say the undercover police officer was in his car, following up

on a shooting that happened on sunday when he was shot in the arm. police chief howard jordan says he doesn't want to compromise this investigation, so he would not give specific information about sundays shooting, and he wouldn't tell us what lead up to monday's officer involved shooting.the chief says he doesn't know if the officer returned fire. the chief also would not say if the suspects were in a car or standing outside when he says they fired at the police officer. >> during the course of this follow up he was confronted by three armed and very dangerous individuals, during the confrontation the officer was shot in the arm, the officer suffered a non life threatening injury and will make a full recovery >> we do have one person detained., there are two others outstanding and we are conducting a very

thorough >> we have activated our swat team with the help from some of our neighboring agencies, bart police and the highway patrol's assistance with air support >> he was following up on a earlier shooting from yesterday. >> were the suspects in a car or on foot >> reporter: residents in piedmont are on alert after a string of home invasion robberies today. it all began this morning, when two suspects attempted to break into a home on the corner of estates drive but were scared away by a dog. the suspects then ran down the street and kicked in the door of another home. once inside, they threatened an elderly couple with a shotgun or a rifle. the suspects ransacked the home and made off with a computer monitor and a

jewelry box. the couple's neighbor had this to say. a few hours later. on arroyo avenue another home was broken into. the front door kicked in again. this time, two suspects threatened the homeowners with a handgun and a shotgun or rifle. one victim managed to escape and call police. the suspects fled in a newer gray or white s-u-v. police have yet to confirm whether all three incidents are related. has ended a long day of formal inaugural events. with lighter festivities. mister obama and the first lady danced three times at the official balls at the washington convention center. the president took the oath of office in front of hundreds of thousands of people. on the steps of the u-s capitol today. tory dunnan has a look at the day's events -- including president obama's much anticipated inaugural address. >> reporter: the music is playing and the champagne is flowing in our nation's capital. thousands of people are attending inaugural balls-- culminating the two-day inauguration of president barack obama. >> "today we experienced the majesty of our democracy." >> reporter: earlier today, he made it >> "so help you god?" >> "so help me god." >> "congratulations mr. president." >> reporter: following up

tonight at 11 -- the san rafael police department is asking for the public's help, in identifying a man who violently robbed a north kron 4's charles clifford has details. >> reporter: according to police, around 7pm saturday evening, this man robbed variedades cellular, a cell phone and checking cashing business in san rafael. he was also carrying a gun during the robbery and police say he fired at least one shot at store employees. now we also have surveillance video of the attack, let's take a look. here you can see the man entering the store. he's wearing a black hooded

sweatshirt and he's holding the gun in his left hand. he also appears to have a glove on that hand. there were three employees in the store at the time, the suspect points the gun at them and apparently starts demanding money. the employees actually retreat into a back room that has a door with bullet proof glass. from this different angle you can see the suspect trying to hide his face. he still pointing the gun at them. finally the man tries to go around the counter, the employees move into the back room and this is when police say he fired at least one shot, narrowly missing the employees. the suspect then flees from the store. now, the man is described as having a heavy build, he's between 5'6" and 5'10" tall, african american, he's

in his late 20s or early 30s, and he was wearing a black sweatshirt at the time of the robbery. anyone with information is asked to call the san rafael police department. the newsroom, charles clifford kron 4 news. today, americans across the bay and the nation honoring civil rights leader, dr. martin luther king junior. he played a significant role in advancing african - american and human rights through non-violence and civil disobedience in the 19- sixties. until his assasination in 1968. here in the bay area -- thousands of people gathered at the yerba buena gardens in san francisco for the annual m-l-k -day- celbration. here are some of the sights and sounds from the holiday event.

this was the scene at diridon station early this morning in san jose. hundreds of people honoring dr. king -- by boarding the freedom train. an annual tradition. the dr. martin luther king jr association. charters and pays for the trains. they have been doing so for the past 30 years. actually, two trains were needed to accommodate this year's crowds. many people hearr mission on this day. is to keep dr king's dream alive. hundreds more freedom riders climbed aboard in palo alto for the trip to san francisco. where they were to join the march and rally in honor of the late civil rights leader. and dr. martin luther king's presence was certainly felt during the

bay pushing towards tuesday and wednesday with another round of showers for the weekend. >> take a look of this dog. if you don't believe what the power a bath and a haircut can do. then take a look at this dog that was found in hollywood, south carolina. this is what the dog looked like beforehand. and this is what the dog looked like after its new haircut and bath. the dog was stuck in what's called pluff mud. a gooey. smelly mud found in parts of south carolina. it took about two hours but the charleston animal society finally freed this nine to twelve month old dog. no one knows who the owner is but in the meantime the muddy waters. >> the warriors battle the division leading clippers in a martin luther king day matinee. gary has those highlights straight ahead plus. it's a story we'll be hearing about the next two weeks. brother's jim and john harbaugh.head to head for the super bowl championship.
